The Transparent Referendum Initiative shortlisted as a finalist in the 'Best Use of Data for Social Impact' category at the Data Science Awards 2018.

The UCD Dynamics Lab, led by Associate Professor Diane Payne, at the Geary Institute for Public Policy partnered with the Transparent Referendum Initiative (TREF.ie) to gather and share information on online ads targeting Irish voters in the run up to the recent referendum on the Repeal of the 8th Amendment. The specific role in this partnership for the Dynamics Lab at UCD’s Geary Institute was to conduct an analysis of this online data.

Killian McLoughlin, a Masters student at the UCD School of Sociology (MSc Programme in Social Data Analytics) worked with the Transparent Referendum Initiative data and team, as part of his MSc internship training.

The Transparent Referendum Initiative has been shortlisted as one of Finalists in the 'Best Use of Data for Social Impact' category at the Data Science Awards 2018.

Professor Siniša Malešević awarded American Sociological Association's Peace, War, and Social Conflict Best Book Award

Art Train to EVA

A trip to the 38^th EVA International Biennial of Contemporary Art in Limerick on 6 June was co-hosted by UCD Sociology Masters in Race, Migration and Decolonial Studies, UCD Parity Studios Artist in Residence Programme and Draiocht Art Centre, with additional support from UCD College of Social Science and Law. 

We had an amazing day of powerful artwork made all the more inspirational by the lively exchanges on the train to and from Limerick. The group consisted of students from the SOC40970 Art, Knowledge and Social Change, Parity artists, members of the African Radio Network and other educators, independent artists and activists. Representing 10 countries, the visit was shaped by many spontaneous art historical and political expositions arising through the regional- and cultural-specific lenses of everyone there. 

UCD Art Train is part of a collaboration between Dr Alice Feldman in the School, Parity Director Emer O’Boyle,  and Sociology PhD student and Draiocht Artist in Residence Michael McLoughlin.

Looking forward to more UCD Art Train events contributing to efforts being made to cultivate spaces in and expand access to the Irish art scene for more than just the white/Irish/European mainstream, as well as energising people involved in decolonial, anti-racism and intercultural work!!
